MoU signed to implement Myanmar Decent Work Country Programme

MoU signed to implement Myanmar Decent Work Country Programme

A ceremony to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, representatives of employers and employees and International Labour Organization (ILO) for implementation of Decent Work Country Programme (2018-2021) in Myanmar to support the country’s development and reduce poverty, was held at Thingaha Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
At the ceremony, Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population U Thein Swe said appropriate local work programmes will be implemented in the three priority areas for all people, including vulnerable persons in conflict areas, where conflicts had occurred in the past and disasters had occurred; strengthening the following basic worksite procedures and rights; and increasing socio-security protection for all people, especially vulnerable workers and peoples. As it has been drawn up in coordination with the development policy of the State and linked to SDGs (sustainable development goals), it will allow technical and vocational work capacity development in youths and those who had come of age, enable them to acquire appropriate work and obtain increased social protections. By strengthening and observation of worksite basic rules and rights, it will support the country’s development and poverty reduction, said the Union Minister.
Next, ILO Deputy Director General Mr. Greg Vines delivered a message of greetings and ILO Liaison Officer Rory Mungoven explained about the implementation of the program.
Afterwards, the Union Minister, ILO Deputy Director General, three employer representatives and three employee representatives signed the MoU, followed by an employee representative and an employer representative delivering words of appreciation.
The event was attended by invited guests from embassies, representatives from programme implementing ministries, employer and employee representatives. — MNA
