the second project planning meeting for 2019

With the aim to present the update results and status of the IndustriALL UB Myanmar project implementations of IWFM and MWFM, the second project planning meeting for 2019 was held on 17/18 May 2019 at Best Western Green Hill Hotel in Yangon. It was attended by a total of 39 participants (24 men-15 women) including the guests from the international labor organizations which are supporting the project.

After the session of the welcoming messages by the representatives of IndustriALL, the Confederation of Trade Unions Myanmar (CTUM), SASK, FNV and FES, the anti-sexual harassment policy of IndustriALL Global Union was explained to the participants. Then the president of CTUM briefed the current situation of trade unions and workers of Myanmar. His presentation was mainly focused on the inputs of CTUM on labor law reforms and the challenges they are facing.

In the afternoon session of the first day, the delegation led by the president of Trade Union Pro including the director of SASK joined the meeting. Both presidents of IndustriALL affiliates in Myanmar IWFM and MWFM presented the profiles of the organizations to the participants and the guests. Followed by the project brief and summary by the project coordinator to present the project historical background, situation, results, actual achievements, and challenges. Moreover, the current status in regard to “Freedom of Association” in Myanmar was explained by the project lawyer. The questions and answers for the said presentations and the interactive discussions on these were also taken place as well.
Before the end of the first day sessions, the president of Trade Union Pro gave a greeting message and the responsible person for the international department of TU Pro made a brief introduction of TU Pro.

In the second day sessions, leaders and participants from both affiliates had group discussions regarding targets and strategies on organizing drives, membership and dues increase, CBAs, campaign works in OHS, labor law reforms, wages, maternity protection, youth, and women participation issues.

After the group presentations of both organizations, the leaders responded to the questions raised by the participants and guests. Then they set and approved the project activity calendar for the remaining period of the project for the year 2019. It was successfully closed at 4:00 pm on 18th May 2019.
