Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar( Trade unions)
CTUM and MICS-TUsF suspend participation in Tripartite Mechanism which Facilitated by the ILO, showing a disagreement over labor law amendments.
The Confederation of Trade Unions of Myanmar (CTUM) and Myanmar Infrastructure, Craft & Service Trade Unions Federation (MICS-TUsF) jointly conducted a press conference, aiming to release the current situation of Tripartite Mechanism (Government-Employers-Trade Unions) at Sky Palace Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar on 25 January 2019.
U Maung Maung, the president of CTUM and MICS-TUsF General Secretary U Thet Hnin Aung explained the current situation of NTDF to the media, guests and the union leaders attended. They add that the legislators from the Parliaments shall take the voices of workers’ representatives into consideration in the discussions for the second amendments of 2011 Labor Organization Law and 2012 Settlement of Labor Dispute Law.
“We have involved in the labor law reform processes for over two years. It is seen that new proposed amendments (for the second time) to the labor organization law has become more repressive while we expect it shall be transparent and democratic. It is not also in accord with Freedom of Association. Therefore, we will no longer be participating in this process. It is difficult for us to recognize this labor law if the legislators from the Parliaments approve it. Our decision to suspend participation in the tripartite mechanism is based on this reason.” U Maung Maung said at the press conference.

Then both leaders announce that the Confederation of Trade Unions of Myanmar (CTUM) and Myanmar Infrastructure, Craft & Service Trade Unions Federation (MICS-TUsF) suspend participation in all tripartite mechanism for two weeks effecting from today, 25th January 2019.
In the event, the questions raised by the media were answered by U Maung Maung, the president of CTUM, the general secretary of MICS-TUsF U Thet Hnin Aung and Daw Phyo Sandar Soe, the joint general secretary of CTUM.
