The Confederation of Trade Unions Myanmar (CTUM) recognizes the outcome of the 2020 Multi-party Democracy General Election and welcomes the new government which will be formed with the outcome of the election.

As the outcome of the election is the desire of the majority of people of the country, CTUM opposes any kind of action or attempt leading to stepping backward against the desire of people of the country.

Our country has been making efforts in transition of achieve democratization for decade. CTUM, have participated all along with the change to Myanmar’s Democratization with all our physical, intellect and resources.

As guaranteed by the 2008 Constitution which is the main law and in accordance with the Labour Organization Law (2011) and Labour Organization Rule (2012), we practice and exercise the right to Freedom of Association. We work to nurture democratic principles and practice among trade unions.

For the political, economic and social development of the country, CTUM works to have peaceful and stable workplaces, to have sound industrial relations, genuine and meaningful social dialogue. From the confrontation culture we introduce workers towards the social dialogue culture.

While as a country we all work to move away from the long-suffered poverty trap, we now also have the added Covid 19 pandemic and its negative impacts.

As a good model of democratization, CTUM urges all parties to solve the political problems in a peaceful way and move forward in the democratic transition, avoiding unnecessary violent actions.

CTUM will cooperate with the upcoming new government for the political, economic and social development of the country. CTUM opposes any kind of action or attempt to alter the outcome of the elections or impede Myanmar’s democratic transition.
